Mission Backpack

Connecting Those Who Care with Hungry Kids

Mission Backpack connects willing sponsors with schools to help feed the children most in need.

48% of children attending Greenville County Schools receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch.  Many children do not get enough to eat on the days they are not in school.

How does it work?

  • A school staff selects 25 to 30 children most in need of weekend supplemental food.
  • A sponsor group purchases or recruits the food items on the menu, packs the weekly bags and delivers them to the school.
  • The commitment is for an entire school year
  • The cost, using retail prices, is approximately $360 per child

Sharing the Load

To share the financial load of supporting Mission Backpack, sponsors can ask different groups within their organization to take responsibility for a week or a month at a time.

The packing and delivering can also be spread out among many groups as long as the Coordinator know which group is taking which week.
